Book vs. Kindle on a plane. Don't have to shut off your book when taking off and landing. Annoying flight attendants pestering you to turn off all electronic devices as you thumb through "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter".

Book vs Kindle on Computer Books!

Kindle is almost useless on computer reference books and cookbooks. Can't read the code samples, and I need to refer to multiple pages all at the about the same time. With books I can do that by slapping in a bunch of sticky notes, write little notes and no batteries required.

For cooking, I need two or three books open all at the same time.

See Nicholson Baker's article critiquing the Kindle in the current issue of the New Yorker.

OK, this is one area where Kindle is really weak. About the only thing it has going for it is that if you have two Kindles (up to six, actually) on the same account, you can buy the book once and both read it at the same time. But again, even with an advantage, you can't resist being snarky and having the print book reader reading something literary while the Kindle reader is reading BRIDGE'S OF MADISON COUNTY. Low blow! And something of an insult to us Kindle owners.

We're really just trying be funny. Maybe a little snarky, sure, but this is mostly for fun. We don't think we're going to halt Kindle sales, or even increase our own at all. We're just extolling the value of The Book in a silly way. I can't really read the Unimaginable Mathematics book, and Kevin's not really as dumb as he's acting. . . .well. . . .'Nough said. You get the idea.

Wow guys, these really are brilliant. What a clever idea! Too many independent bookstores are going out of business (I die a little inside whenever I hear of another one), and this is such a great way to get attention back on the basics. Way to go and keep it up! Just wrote about you on my publishing/job hunt blog. Check it out: www.marianschembari.com
